@ bm'er I'm sorry mate but ,Islam is not native to West Africans at least,and many native religions such as that of the Yoruba believed in a single one God ODUDUWA, who had deities(spelling?) not mumerous others, these you might consider in christianity or islam as angels, also it has a quite similar stoy of creation.

Voodoo/santeria does come from the Yoroba and other African religions. With the Yoroba religon being the strongest influence. I believe during the Haitian revolution they were shouting the name of the Yoroban God. Of course voodoo/santeria is not exactly the same as Yoroba as voodoo/santeria has been mixed with catholicism. But they are an offspring of the Yoroban and other traditional Aftican religions.
