No problem at all in my eyes for religious people of whatever background, or orientation, to be involved in poltics. In fact if these individuals have strong integrity, they can have an important impact on the culture of politics and moral leadership period.
The issue for me is not their beliefs, but integrity and quality and willingness to not be dogmatic and doctrinaire on issues of facts, or issues they have to deal with. If a leader or spokesperson cannot move beyond their beliefs in serving the people then they are limited.
If a situation demands militant, or assertive, action but a leaders starts to wobble because of his religious beliefs then he is no good to man nor beast.
