I can see why many (black people at least) would jump for joy at this news thinking it is 'one in the eye for the white establishment'. However, I too would utter a word of caution, echoing Fredblacks and Rogue_Stateman's comments.
Just 'getting a good hit' in on the 'enemy' is futile if it gives no strategic advantage whatsoever. What is the good of winning 'millions of dollars' if the subsequent windfall is frittered away and not used on building any foundation on which to launch further assault initiatives that lead toward achieving ones ultimate goal?
In principle, getting compensation from those who have 'benefited' from, and continue to enjoy the results of, their atrocities against others, sounds ethical and just. However, it can be the equivalent of a boxer getting one good hit on his opponent which does no more than stun the opponent while exhausting the one who threw the punch so much that he is a sitting duck for his opponents counter punch.
An overall plan and clearly defined strategy must go hand in hand with such actions if they are to reap any long term benefit for the 'people' whose suffering they are meant to appease.
Furthermore, think about the potential fallout if such actions are successful, and because the money fails to be used constructively, black people are virtually in the same position as they were before. The white establishment can gleeful claime 'it paid it's debt'; 'it gave blacks want they have been screaming about for so long';...'yet look at what they have done with it! It is their ineptitude which is to blame for the position they are in, not the white man'. Hmmmm... think about it!
