Hi Madfet... I feel we are in the same age group or generation if not we be very close.. but what is worrying me is that people in our age group or generation are showing this same disrespect to elders. Do you remember if a as a child you disrespect an elder you own parent would buss you up, nowadayz if a child disrespect an elder the parents are willing to back the child up subconsciously handing over the power to the child...
I also remember a time when it was ok for a parent or elder to beat or tellyour child off if they saw them on the street going on a way, do it now and your ass is in court and a phat cheque on it's way for compensation..
I feel discipline needs to be re enforced in our community and parents backed up by other parents whether the child likes it or not... Children are feeling like they are on the same level as the parent.. and in this day of age with so much available education the parent should be skooling the child.,.. but I have seen in many cases the child skooling the parent and as a result the parent has lost control.
Also another facator in this, is the child wants more.... they watch TV and want the high life and are not taught the value of raising a family and a future and also the fact that this take time, in turn they will turn their backs on their own family. This is only heard of from western values, but living in the west this has become the norm.
We may not have liked the way we were brought up when we was growing up, butI can assure you I am very grateful for the way my parents brought me up with their values... it's just a shame that our mentally of freedom has to pay a price with our children.
All I can say is if you are a parent... A simple thing in life to extend to our children is to respect your elders... A lot of children are more wiser to things that happen nowadays but nothing is more clear cut than experience.... and that is why they should listen, heed and respect their elders...
Life is good really, it's just how you view it.
