"Down" really means "toward the center of the Earth." We cannot logically say that "heaven is out in space", because the EARTH is also "out in space". If we insist that "heaven is out in space", and we have to admit that the Earth is "out in space", then there is no contradiction to say that Heaven is here on Earth.
