I was thinking about how superstitious people are,and was wondering is superstition a sin?
If you take a serious look at what superstition is you might think it is a sin. Basically it's a belief that something(or someone)
that has a mysterious power to create good or bad luck. For example, take a pro baseball pitcher who pitches a
no hitter while wearing his so called lucky socks. He may keep wearing those socks every time he pitches a game
til he finally lost a game. By doing this he is basically giving credit for his winning to his so-called lucky socks instead of
giving credit to God which I feel would be kind of like idiol worshiping(having more faith in a pair of socks than God)
Then there's the so-called bad luck superstition(splitting poles, walking under a ladder ect.....). I 've realized how serious
take these superstitions one day while I was sitting at the plaza(in K.C) listening to one of the live music group they had playing.
I happen to notice a group of black people across the street. As they were walking one of the ladiessmall son(maybe 2 years old)
split a pole. This lady went back around the pole got the child and brought him back around the the way everyone else went.
I thought it was sad that people could be so superstitious. Also I believe that when you have this superstition it's as if you
are saying that you don't have enough faith that God will protect you against evil(wether real or imagined).
Another thing,I believe that having superstition can have negitive effect on a person because superstition is like a
form of worry(that something bad might happen),and I'm sure you know that worrying and cause stress which
can make you sick or kill you(the scripture talks about not worrying, but trusting in God). Anyway what do you think
about this,is superstition a sin? And do any of you have any personal superstitions(just curious).
