Would any of those people rallying to the defence of this guy care to explain exactly what slip of the tongue means? It is a quaint term which is supposed to excuse our verbal sins, but yet no one actually says what it means.
Please break it down for me. Take me through the 'process' by which slip of the tongue occurs.
Is any thought process involved when it occurs?
Is it a purely involuntary action? e.g. the tongue moves on its own accord, forming words and casuing the subject to 'verbalise' them all without his/her conscious input.
Is the subject in a kind of alpha state where he/she has lost the ability to affect the articulation process?
I would really love to know how the process works. Anyone care to step up to the plate and educate a poor backward d*ckhead (oops, slip of the keyboard, I meant to type 'man').
