I think most people are reluctant to rush to the defense of strangers because there's few thing morehurtful andnothing more embarrasingthan the feeling you get fromf coming to someone's rescue who doesn't appreciate it....and actually resents it.
Like a woman being battered by her husband/boy-friend and you rush to her defense and instead of her thanking you....they BOTH end up going up side your head.
You feel like a complete fool.
