UMMM, very interesting. when I was an Israelite, I was taught that the Medes and the Persians conquered the tribe of Judah specifically and nicknamed them "Jews" while they were under their rule. I wonder what the truth really is?
The Medes and Persians conqured the Chaldeans and took control of Babylon...where the Hebrews lived at the time.
But yes, the word Jew or Yahud came as a result of bringing together all people who believed in that religion regardless of ancestry or ethnicity.
Even today, anyone can be a Jew as long as they accept Judaic ideology.
That's why Muslims say that Abraham wasn't a Jew, neither was Moses, David, or Solomon.
They lived BEFORE this term existed.
