the Quran teaches us not JUST to believe. It challanges us to find ways prove it is wrong. this is a challenge that is still open today. it challenges non-believers with- If this (Quran) is not the words of God, then what is it? -
if you have read any of the Quran you will know that whtever thoughts you have about it, it ALREADY has an answer for it. If for example, you think muhammad was nothing but a poet or a madman, it ALREADY knows your thoughts and gives you an answer to your thoughts! The Quran is always a step ahead of you.
