I haven't been to Leicester, but I doubt it's that bad, like a Little India/Pakistan. my borough, Harrow, has roughly the same %age of Asians (29.65%), and has roughly the same population (200,000). Only places I know which look like Little India are Southall, andi think East Ham. Rest just have Asians as a large minority

like 20-50%. .............I went thru' Leicester for a Football Match 15 years ago....couldn't believe I was in England.....Everything and everybody and every Business was Asian in the part I went thru' and that was 1990.....so that area logically would just be extended...

Hmm, some parts of leicester are likely very asian, but on average across the whole city boundary, it likely works out the same as Harrow borough (minus the Blacks), that is 30% asian on average. Essentially what makes leicester special is that it's got the characteristics ofone of the more ethniclondon boroughs, except it is it's own city. leicester as a whole is 29.92% asian. of the 36 sub-divided areas (from the census), 13 of them are less than 10% indian (very white areas), 8 of them are more than 50% indian (very asian areas), the rest are between that range. Harrow borough in comparison as a whole is 29.65% asian. of the 31 sub divided areas, only 1 is less than 10% indian, none are over 50% indian, although a few are over 50% asian.

What's interesting about this comparison is that, although both Harrow borough & Leicester city are just as asian. Leicester is much more racially segregated, 1/3rd of the areas in leicester you can walk around and find very few asians (less than 1 in 10), and 1/4th of the areas in leicester you can walk around find mostly asians (more than 5 in 10 asian faces). whereas in Harrow only 1 area will you find less than than 1 in 10 faces asian, and only 3-5 areas will you find mostly asians (more than 5 in 10 asian faces).

This doesn't sound too good, as it's better to have an even spread rather than an uneven spread. perhaps this is a characteristic of most cities, and most of the minorities live in the inner city. whereas with London, boroughs like Harrow, Ealing, Hounslow, even Brent are more middle-surburbia, and thus have a more even spread of minorities across their area. Leicester sounds like Southall + Dagenham, i.e. very ethnic and very white areas, having such stark contrasts in a city the size of leicester could cause racial tensions. it's true ghettofication (a specific minority living in one area), london has very few of these ghettoes, in west london southall is the only one that comes to my mind, and that averages 75% asian (but no more than 50% indian), the really ethnic areas in brent are just indicative of the borough's overall demographics, theres no really black or really asian area in brent, only areas that are a mix of many non-white ethnics (indians, sri lankans, west indians, africans).
