Harry Potter is shallow garbage. I waited until a movie came on cable to watch it but I have a grand-niece with 3 of the books. I offered to pay her to read some sci-fi books and she wouldn't do it.
I suppose it is valid to wonder if Harry Potter might sufficiently stimulate some children's curiosity. Further research can bring you to this:
