When people feel outnumbered and are being threatened, then of course they're likely to get as many people as possible to unite with them to try and even things up. If it was a mainly black school, and black kids fighting..chances are there would be two of them involved...although there may be the few that will seek back up...but tell that white boy that white people do it also. It's no just black people that "call up their people".
