The main differences between western philosophy and African philosophy are that the western teachings tend to be in the form of essays. i.e they tell you how to act, thinkand behave. Whereas the African ones tend to be short, and generally should encourage a person to think about things for themselves. If not they tend to come in the form of stories.

Remember that ALL western philosophers are promoted for a reason, it's why they stand the test of time. In my eyes a real philosopher shouldn't be famous, those who you mentioned had fame when alive also, they didn't exactly dislike the attention either.
