Would you suggest the same for Poirot or Miss Marple (two well known Agatha Christie characters)? At the end of the day that is what James Bond is (a character)justlike Shaft, say. It just so happens that the colour of those characters are a fundamental element of their makeup. James Bond has to be white in as much as Shaft has to be black. That's how the characters were created.

If we are going to claim that the colour of fictional creations is totally irrelevant then where do we stop? because the same would have to apply to fictional black characters....why can't Shaft be Chinese?

Does that mean that if I create this great character in my image (not too difficult to do) for a series of books I am writing, that when the books areturned into a film, I should not be bothered that the character in the film is white? Ridiculous! Thepersona of the character is enshrined in his 'colour' so to make him white just wouldn't work. I would suggest that the same applies to the character known as James Bond.
