Hello K...I think Dr. Amos Wilson touched on it when he stated that to control our children, we must control the consequences of their actions. We have no control over our children's consequences in the West.TheWest only promotes individualism and greed, which totally destroys the community structure fundamental to mosttraditional African families. I can remembergrowing up where if you were acting up in school or on the block, your neighbor wouldput it to yourbutt (in somenot too ghetto areas). Then your aunt, grandmother, uncle, or whoever put it to you. You might have received 3 or 4woopings before your mama got home, and thenshe didn't even have to do anything (but of course she put it to your butt anyway). Nowadays,"don't touch my child, or I'll sue youra*s!" When my parents were growing up, the community structure was far more cohesive where people actually looked out for each other.

Now, we have everyone pursuing only their own interests which has destroyed the African family in my opinion. Itwas absolutely unspeakable to sell drugs to your own family membersjust 30 or40 years ago. It isincreasingly common now.I remember in junior high school people getting jacked for their Triple Fat Goose (down-filledcoat) andTimberland bootsin the middle of the winter just because they looked new and another brother wanted to sport them. There are countless effects I could mention, but when you have this going on while immersing Africans in the poverty level (or just above), you can only expectto yield menaces to society and generations of traducers to the African race.

African heart, African mind
