...but I can't say that I am not suprised.
I said the mediawould serve as a vechile to amplify the whole situation. It will and has increased hopelessness and particularly fearin environments/section of societywhere it is perceived there is no hope.

You I'd like to say this is JUST about 'hopelessnes' but to be honest i don't think that excuse washes anymore... I know Leytonstone well.. and its not exactly deprived in any sense of the word... And I really don't want to hear the excuse of single parenthood as that is an insult to hard working mothers who raise descent children....
I am firmly of the view that like the huge numbers of Blacks in hospital...there is something about being BLACK and being raised in the WEST that is just not healthy..... I have met soo many parents lately who literally fear for their male children in this country and are seriously thinking about moving out of the UK....
If I had a boy child, honestly I would send him back home because he would be safer there than here...

I think I'd agree about the hospitals. Not a good place for us. Human laboratory.
I know leytonstone well too.
It seems to me that there is hopelessness for young black males. With the pressure of racism coming from all aspects of society and theissues we have within our communitiesa culture is formed for them. This to me isa culture that is needed in order for them to have a sense of what is going on as theyjourney from boys to men. Grime is their form of expression and gives a sense of whatreferences areinfluencing their culture.
After seeinga clip of a music video (Grime) with the boy in it I thought to myself: Why are you doing that ? Why do you need, absolutely need, to replicate some Wu Tang type video from back in the day. I'm sure all of you live comfortably enough. Why would you want to make your circumstances seem worse than what they really are ? Even to this day I see men who are my age (22)still doing this bad man, at night, crew all around me in a stairway, calling out peoples names ting. Is that what you're really aspiring to ? And some of these guys have children themselves. Can you look after your kin ? Can you look afterfamily ? Can you cook ?
I wonder whatvision they have for their future. Football.....or......maybe even more Grime, as I have heard myself on occassions?
Anyway, from these videos what I see is a lack of good direction, lots offustration, fear and hopelessness and incidents like that of yesterday, are, I guess a way of bringing things to ahead to release the tension.
Yes, Kunjufu. We not good here. But I think its better to remedy within before any idea of how the world around us could change.
Why, for instance don't we have control in our community of the thinking that goes around the younger generation as we can see from their Grime You Tube videos and the culture that is attached to it ? I think that's one most important aspects we need to deal with in order to deal with our communities: information. Otherwise, if there's no filtering or editing, those who are aren't adept enough, mature or informed enough will make the wrong moves as to what our community should be allowed to think. The culture amongst the youth I'd say is already out of control as is with Hip Hop in the States.
OK, rant over.
