C&J your whole idea of us all raising each others children is great in principal but very unrealistic.
I have about enough time to cater for my own kids and make sure everything is present and correct where they are concerend, and if i find myself with spare time, i also devote this to them.
I have twice tried to get involved or given friends advice on their children only for it to be thrown back to in my face. I tried to speak to a friend after her 10 yr old stole my phone out of my house and ended up with a knife wound for my trouble. he is now 16 and in jail. Just last week i shouted at a little boy for playing in the street, the car missed him by inches, only for his mother to threaten to kill me if i ever shouted at him again, i actually saved the childs life not that made any difference to her.
It would be great if we were allowed to chastise or discipline each others children, or even if these kids were brought up with respect for elders as we were but its no longer like that. We have to face up to the fact that many kids are 'lost' already and make sure that our kids do not go the same way.
