Have to agree in every way with MGL. I don't particularly like broad terms like white supremacy because it often confuses more than it elaborates on. But if there is one institution where this concept clearly applies is the media and it is raw and you don't have to be too bright to see that black is consistently depicted as bad and white as better whether by default or overtly. Check this I was telling my wife just check these US sitcoms and the ones she likes and look how the black woman is portrayed. They are either never our most attractive women or any who can test the main white female lead and they are usually raw ,aggressive and loud to make the white gal more desirable.

This example took place about a month ago teaching a group of criminologist consisting of police graduates as well. We had just been talking about the media and its impact on the perceptions of crime and how it distorted crime and who the real criminals are, and plays into the party political system etc etc. As the class ended I told my students to make sure they watched any of the many fact based crime or policed based programmes on TV such as Crime Watch etc so we could continue the discussion in the next seminar.

A couple of days later, I was working in my study while the TV was on and I really had no idea what was on because I was working. I took a break and swung around in my chair to see what was on the TV and lo and behold Crimewatch just came on and would you believe it the first three crime segments all featured black men and one sick case in particular where some creep had broken into an old people's home and had sex with some almost comotosed old woman. But that is not the point. After that there was no other segment involving black people or black men.

When my class came around again and I checked that students had watched the TV which they had and somebody mentioned CrimeWatch. I asked the class, and this is pure whites and about 10 cops amongst them, what is the statistical probability that three black men would appear in a selection of randomly chosen TV segments considering the black population eg AFrican and African-Caribbean do not even make 2.7 of the population, but yet were the first three opening clips in a programme with a potential coverage of 63. 5 million people. All of the white students said that the probability of that happening if chosen randomly is almost nil....Further they said the only explanation that can be given is that the editor or someone consciously chose and selected those images.

The next statement I made was how much did any student want to bet me if I got onto the phone to any of my many contacts within the national police service and phoned the Crime Desk and ask them for offences that took place in the week or two prior the showing of CrimeWatch I would get nuff far more disturbing cases involving whites than the three chosen to start that Crimwatch opening with. Not one student disagreed with me and one female cop told me just the other day they dealt with a very nasty crime involving a white male which was far shocking than anything the black males did. In fact the two other incidents involving black males were for robbery which in the world of serious policing is a joke business.

I rest my case.
