You're right about the father being black most of the time. I don't know how true it is but I've heard about an interesting theory in a race and gender class I took in college that defines a gender, racial social ladder or hierarchy that looks like this:
white men
white women
black men
black women
If you notice, the white men are at the top, black women are on the lowest rung, and white women and black men are neck and neck but both below the white men. It's more likely that with their similar social status (according to this theory) which may include pay and job availability etc., they are closer together, whereas the gap between the white men and black women is significantly wider, which makes it appear that it would be less likely for them to come together in social situations than it would be for the white women/black men.
I haven't been able to find anymore information on this theory, so if anyone knows anything about it, or it's name that would be helpful. I'm not sure how much I agree with this theory since I don't have more information on what it's based on, but it's an interesting one nonetheless.
CHI, you don't have to change a damn thing about that sentence to make it a racist statement. Racism is racism, plain and simple.

don't know about that theory.. white men have had easy access to black women for few centuries now and it still seems to be the case.
