I was sure there was a topic for this already but I couldn't find it.
There's a large misconception that all African/black folks are extremely spiritual and religious, but I've come across quite a few who describe themselves as atheists, agnostics, spiritual but not religious etc. So I was just wondering who here on BN is drinking something other than the holy water.

I am an atheist. I wasn't raised to be atheist, but being raised w/out any religion has, I guess, led me to atheism by default.

It wasn't a decision for me to be atheist, I just always was, even as a child. Well, I didn't really think about religion as a child at all to consider myself atheist at the time, but looking back on it I realize I was.

My father went to catholic school but doesn't hold allegiance to any particular religion. He actually prefers scientific theory and enjoys learning about different religions.

My mother and her family are animists. They believe animals and nature lack the personal motive and fallibility of humans and therefore are truly non-judgmental and nearest perfect powers. I tend to believe this somewhat as well.
They also believe that animals hold spiritual meanings and represent and harness certain powerful spirits themselves.
