There was no oversight. This was addressed by me when I asked people to read the guidelines. No one should be saying this topic can never be discussed in this village. It’s not the case in practice or via the guidelines here. But I guess reading is a learned skill - some people just gaze, skim or simply ignore words and think comprehension is then guaranteed, like morning sunlight
There is inconsistency IMO (not just here), and I'm entitled to that opinion. You are welcome to take it or leave it.
As your opinion is about moderation on these boards, I am also entitled to say your opinion did not take into consideration the guidelines and the regular, routine deletion of such threads here as a normal function; which is known by the mass of the membership here. We (moderators), do not have to consult with the membership, for any editorial decision we take here (BNV Guidelines again), so on that basis your opinion is not informed by the Village guidelines or the routine practice of the Moderators. So what is it based on?
I read your comments on opinion - you say you don't take the boards or discussion here seriously, which you obviously have that right to do.
But
if you (or any member), wishes to air their opinions on a public forum. Those opinions can or will become objects for discussion. This forum is for opinion (BNV Guidelines). In discussion, opinions are weighed and tested. Those members who take greater care, time and consideration with their posts (printed thoughts) often find that when their opinion (which they do have the right to have) is challenged or questioned, that the result is how informed, uninformed, rational or irrational their thoughts really are. This does not have to be a personal interaction but one that is natural; where thoughts and by extension, intellects are enriched or developed.
The Internet is the de facto standard medium for the mass communication of the written word. Words are the foundation of modern civilisation. They allow people to rise above animals through our ability to express complex abstractions which we can then share, in order to learn from others. Words also importantly carry our intergenerational knowledge. So the Internet has and will continue to make history. The BNV is one of the most popular All-African discussion sites in Cyberspace. An important place for our people and their communication of knowledge.
Breadfruit, when can an IR thread exist here, is it the same as threads raising biracial issues ?.....I would like to know what the mods use to decide actually. I know that interacial relationship threads are commonly binned.
Well to answer your first question, you're looking at the existence of one right now! Question 2, the moderators, just like the membership, have the guidelines, which help instruct our actions here. We also have our own discussion area where we discuss threads and administration of the membership. Its with these tools that decisons are made.
Another thing, what has sighting a poster you agree with, got to do with me?.....If you have something to get off your chest, just say it in straight language.....after all this is just the net buddie....there is no "game" to be stepped up on an internet forum, its not that serious..........lol
Never known myself to be someone who doesn't use straight language Chi!! You first mentioned high fiving. I didn't think your premise or context for using it (that of inconsistency) was correct. I personally congratulated a poster for a brilliant contribution to this thread and saw (still do) no contradiction. No long ting!!
Stepping up our game, refers to the fact that this forum is a readers forum, first and foremost. Most members read a lot more than they post. Africans from all over the world read this forum. Non members read these pages. Governments read this forum. Mainstream media read this forum. What makes this forum is the written contributions from the core membership (which you over the years have been part of). If our thoughts (i.e., our ideas which are the fundamental elements in our contributions, debates or discussions), are of a more qualitative rather than quantitative nature, by default, the reading will also rise in quality. Be stepped up, as it was. A greater experience for all members in general.
Peace
