If a person wishes to become a christian, those four words are the first step. It sets the premise for what follows.
I was witnessing yesterday and knocked on a young white person's door and asked him about the bible. He said that he believed parts of it. He is much like many christians today. They choose which parts they what to believe. Like the prosperity message, and God certainly wants us to prosper. But prosperity is not a prerequisite for a body being saved. it certainly is a benefit that some enjoy but there also are criminals who have oodles of money, so dastardly ceos and other unscrupelous people who get money in ways that are not blessed by God.
In the beginning God....

By the same reasoning, we have to conclude that the "Gods" (Elohim) of the Bible didn't really create the Universe as it was already there. Reading further in the first chapter of Genesis, it reveals that the spirit of this God hovered over the waters before erecting the heavens and separating bodies of land. It says nothing about it creating the conditions conducive to water being on the planet, let alone mentioning the creation of the actual planet itself. Since this was the "beginning" for your gods, then it/they had to have been created at some point as well. This invariably means the Biblical/Abrahamic God isn't much of a "God" in the sense of omniscience and omnipotence. Whatever created it/they would certainly be greater than Jehovah/Elohim/Adonai(Aten).
