I would like to dialogue with you as long as we can agree to disagree. most people on here get burned when some one does not see things their way. Even though we don't apparently see eye to eye on a few things we can still dialogue and ask questions.

I am curious as to why you would see those verses in the 5th chapter as describing a prophet who as you said is to come. That is not the interpretation of that chapter at all as I have been taught. And comforter is only used twice in the old testament. Twice in Ecclesiastes and I believe twice also in Lamatations.

Comforter: Nacham, it means in one sense to pity or console and in another to avenge or repent....

Prophets never stopped people from being evil. They would speak to the people for God either a curse or a blessing or some instruction or direction....it was always up to the people to hear and obey....harken, hear oh ye people of God....

If what you said is true that another prophet had to come because people were still disobedient, then you say muhammed was the last...why so when people are still not obeying God and as you said and i agree more confused than ever?

and what you say about the different versions of the bible is true. i basically stick with the KJV even though it also is an interpretation. I accept is as being closer to the exact language of the bible.

i believe that it was inspired by God and not man. As many times as it some have tried to destroy it and discredit it yet it stands about all books...it truly is a lamp, a light unto the path of the believe to illuminate the truth where darkness tries to over shadow men.

Could you please show me where the bible says that Jesus said another prophet was coming behind Him, I would like to study that verse....
