I first read the Autobiography back in the 60s when I was in high school. I have probably read it at least 3 times.
When I was even younger I would sometimes buy the Muslim newspaper. I think it was called "Muhammad Speaks" back then. I was impressed with the businesses that the Muslims ran. But eventually I came to that story about the Black scientist making White people and that just freaked me out. I had decided I was an agnostic the year before Malcolm was assassinated and had no interest in any religion.
So in reading the Autobiography I could never understand why he got involved with the Muslims but if he hadn't then quite likely we never would have heard of him.
Another thing that stuck out in my mind was his sticking his head in the toilet when something went wrong when he was trying to process his hair. I still remember seeing Black men having done that to their hair in the 50s.
MLK most likely could not have attained his influence without the Christian psychology. Religion is a powerful force and moves a lot of people but we are not all into it. But Black Americans got their Christianity from these so called Christian palefaces. I find it curious that there is so little mention of the Ethiopian Bible on this site.
