Medical School Raises $2,6 Billion At Dinner

UNIVERSITY of Zimbabwe Medical School raised $2,6 billion cash that is earmarked for refurbishment of its library, among other things, at a fundraising dinner held in Harare recently.

The Ministry of Youth Development and Employment Creation, through Deputy Minister Cde Saviour Kasukuwere, donated $400 million towards the fund while eye specialist Dr Solomon Guramatunhu chipped in with $1 billion through the Guramatunhu Foundation.


The school also received $600 million from Migdale Holdings, a company owned by Cde Kasukuwere.

Derrick Goto of Zimbabwe Web Design had a website worth over $400 million created for the school .

Speaking at the event, Cde Kasukuwere said for the nation to attain a healthy tomorrow, not only should immediate needs be addressed but also the holistic environment.

"Their (medical students) initiative is the starting point. We need not only embrace them, but support them fully as well," he said.

Cde Kasukuwere also commended the decline in HIV prevalence in the country saying Zimbabwe was moving in line with the global theme of attaining an Aids-free generation.

Also present at the function was Zimbabwe Medical Association president Dr Paul Chimedza, UZ Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Witmore Bayayi Mujaji, Dean of the UZ Medical School, Professor Midiom Mapfumo Chidzonga among others.

The event was organised by the Zimbabwe Medical Students' Association.

not being funny but what does $2billon zimbabwean dollars buy these days?

that may just buy a PC and harry potter.
