SIERRA LEONE PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC LEAGUE
PDL
PRESS RELEASE 11
APRIL 2008.
The peaceful, free, fair and orderly conduct of the
March 2008 elections in Zimbabwe represent great
progress in the country’s independence history, as a
truly dignified nation.
The Sierra Leone People’s Democratic League (PDL)
therefore strongly supports the ZANU-PF Government of
President Robert Mugabe, despite Western media attacks
and Governments of the US and UK threats were able to
organise credible elections based on stability and
fair play to all.
We congratulate also the Zimbabwean people on the
overwhelming turnout of voters in the recent elections
in their country.
The PDL is of the view that the atmospheric condition
and procedures of the polling day symbilised a
gigantic achievement and step forward compared to most
countries that recently conducted elections that were
evaluated by the Governments of the US and Britain as
fair, free and met international standards. We would
therefore wish to commend the Zimbabwean Election
Commission for well done work under difficult times.
We condemn any attempt by any body to bye-pass the
Zimbabwean Election Commission and unconstitutionally
declared him or herself winner in the polls and
therefore be sworn in as President and
Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Zimbabwe.
Such a moved is not only political blunder, but an
invitation to violence, similar to the Kenyan post
December election periods. We condemn also the hostile
policies of the Governments of the US and Britain
towards Zimbabwe, and call on the international
civilised community to support the Government of
Zimbabwe in its efforts to protect and defend the
sovereignty and integrity of Zimbabwe, and its
determination to improve the living conditions of the
Zimbabwean people in the midst of Western sanctions
and embargo spearheaded by Britain.
The fiction that the Government of the US and Britain
will not negotiate with the elected ZANU-PF Government
of President Robert Mugabe has proved harmful than
good to Africa, and we call upon Africans everywhere
to note this. The people of Zimbabwe like their
counterparts in the US and Britain reserve the right
to decide which democratic procedures are to their
liking without outside interference of any kind.
We endorse the call from Brother Omowale Clay in New
York to support the patriotic forces in Zimbabwe and
his position, which is as follows: “The 2008 Elections
in Zimbabwe demonstrated that the Zimbabwean
Government administrated
"fair and peaceful" elections regardless of the
frenzied and orchestrated Western media attacks. The
British and American Governments will never accept any
election results that do not declare President Mugabe
and ZANU-PF Party the losers.
They understand that the return of the Lands of
Zimbabwe back to its people is the desire of Africans
everywhere. They want at any cost $$$ to stamp out the
flame of Sovereignty and Independence for Africa
before it burns to bright. We must defend the
leadership of President Robert Mugabe and the course
that Zimbabwe has chosen to freedom. The opposition
party, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), entire
leadership is bought and paid for by the U.S. and
Britain. They will deliver Zimbabwe's land and people
back to the West.
This can never happen!
Join us this Friday and bring your Red, Black and
Green Flags. . .
Stand up for Zimbabwe, President Mugabe and ZANU-PF
have stood up for Africa”!
Concluding, the PDL is of the view that the outcomes
of the 2008 elections in Zimbabwe release devastating
blows and put to shame the prophets of doom who had
earlier looked into their crystal balls and saw evil
covering the clouds of Zimbabwe. So also were the
speculations that President Robert Mugabe would flee
his home country and seek asylum somewhere.
Nothing of such happens as the people went and voted
peacefully and returned to do conduct their daily
businesses; and while there have been some
manufactures mysteries and nightmares since Election
Day, the peace has prevailed and the enemies of
Zimbabwe have been shamed.
The people of Zimbabwe should know that the PDL is
conscious of their determination and it is ready and
willing to rally behind them in their struggle for
total independence from foreign domination and
manipulation.
Senders:
1. Alimamy Bakarr Sankoh
Chairman and Leader of the PDL.
2. Amadu Bailor Bah
PDL Secretary for Foreign Relations and International
Solidarity.
For and on behalf of PDL members and supporters.
