Crb checks/disclosure checks -
05-03-09, 01:56 AM
Hi yall
Is it me or has anyone else applied for a job and are waiting forever for their police check? I applied for a job back in September and was successful. I had to go through reference checks and my Crb application was sent off in December but I have now been waiting three months and have now been told I have to wait another month!!!
I am broke,
Its crazy, I just want to start work, the government has really messed up with these checks, they take too long and the joke is I already have three current crbs!!!
thanks stay blessed

Hi Ebonyeyes,
This happened to me too - my husband's came back quite quickly, but mine took MONTHS!
I called them up, told them in no uncertain terms how unhappy I was with the service. I got mine back that week.
Another tip - the website cites 0870 numbers. Go to www.saynoto0870, as every company that uses these numbers have to list landlines as well. Far cheaper to call if, like me, you have free inclusive minutes on your mobile.
Good luck!

The whole CRB thing is one big money spinning game.. plus about 85% of companies who ask for the checks, don't need them nor do they qualify under the Home Office's original mandate.. but companies like to know everything about everybody.
The checks should be made for the major professions, like teaching, security, education and medicine.. and where the contact with young or vunerable people is concerned, but increasingly every company seems to think this is the done thing and the deparment that deals with this is just ringing up the cash register..
It is also worth noting that although there is often a back log, I know for a fact, that delays can occur if there is something in the pipeline (like a pending court case, pending court or police action). The delay occurs partly because all departments will not talk to each other effectively and also because they do not want to appear to miss anything, whereby I have known a check to take over 9 months....

There are 2 different types of CRB checks: the basic and the more indepth one. The indepth one will obviously take a long time because they check your whole family history. My best friend applied to work for MI5 he got turned down because they wanted him to provide information on his dad, who he's not had contact with since he was a baby!
