Please can any one help memake an effectivedispute over an £80 parking charge.
I'm not disputing the offence, however, where the hell do these councils get off with NOT providinga FIRSTnotice and then justify bumping the price up cos I havenot paid. Also my friend makes a good point about the period being overhols so do the 14days inc NY day ?
They apparently issued me a first notice on the 29th Dec 06 confused3INEVER got that!!!! Now they have given me 14 days topay £80 by 12 March 07
Does any one know the law on such issues (i.e) not reciving the first £40 charge - WHAT DO I DO?Help.

Not sure about the legal rammifications but whenever this happens to me - a regular occurance it seems - i call them up and ask them to provide proof of postage, this usually gets them to drop it to the original cost.
This method has worked for me for years.

Tell me about it!
Some ******* baliff picked up my car for an unpaid parking ticket AFTER i had contacted him to make the damn payment.
He said he was busy and would call me back, 10 mins later hisphone was switched off an the main offices was closed - it was saturday.
By monday morning they had added £400 on top for the removaland 2 days storage!
There must be a law against these people just picking up your property and walking off with it when they have your phone number and address and you have not refused to make the payment.
To make matters worse, after checking my records it turns out I flippin paid the ticket !!!!

Lady S, thaks for that link. Very informative. I have writen my letter of appeal and told them I aint paying shit until they can provide evidence and bring the payment down to the original £40 cost. Bloody cheek of them. The joke is that I kept having these reocurring dreams about going outside and not being able to find my car, and then I had a dream which showed my car on a tow away truck . I then hear that a friend of mie had her car towed away last week then I get that stink letter. Eeerie or what.

One of the problems ofliving in London. It happens outside london, but not at an alarming rate as in London.
The councils are only there to get your money, and it will get worse.
Manchester United........it is time to wake up and go on a winning Streak

News Flash!!!!
banana.gifRESULT. Just got a letter today from said council, they povided me with the evidence which I asked for, however they have alsoreducedthe price to therightfull£40which I also recommended they do clp) Furthermore,my protesting the initial £80enabled me to bide time. RESULT!
Let that be a lesson to us! if it aint right, just dispute the ticket. Dont pay, cos it's highly unlikely you getting that owo back.
Thank you to all those that gave advice.

As a matter of course (and I live outside London) I automatically dispute EVER ticket, regardless to whether I am wrong or not. EVERY TICKET.
If just one council allow their attendents to place just one incorrect ticket a day and they have say 20 workers, this is an easy £1.5 million pounds a year.. and we know this number is completely and total unrealistically low.
I always dispute and I always fight and so far I have always WON.
I also fight over potholes, my pride and joy hit a hole that was 4ft by 3ft and 6ins deep and they passed me from pillar to post but in the end they paid up £1600 to replace my shiny allows and disc brake and tracking and stuff.. do not just sit down and take it..
FIGHT.. even London councils can be beaten,, though having said that I am extra careful in London cos I hate the place with a vegence when it comes to traffic, cars and general moving around on transport.
