Right, I have a slight problem. So, I am in the beginning stages of writing my Masters dissertation, I have met my supervisor twice but I don't feel she is of any useconfused3

She doesn't suggest relevant books, nor does she help with the structure etc. I just want a bit of advice, tips, guidance- I do not thinkI am getting anything.

I don't want to make a fuss, as you know then they will remember this and probably give me a lower mark in the end, so what would you suggest I do?

Any advice would be appreciated.

You could ask her outright if she can suggest any relevant pieces of material that would help your dissertation or if there is anything specific you should do when laying it out. If you find that she is still unhelpful, is;t there someone you could ask to give you a knew supervisor? Just tell the truth: You intend to work very hard at your masters and you would prefer a supervisor who was helpful in helping you achieve a good grade. Don;t let your education get f*cked up because someone can;t be bothered to do their job. The supervisor doesn;t need to know you want to be changed to someone else. That way, if it ISN'T possible to change she can;t hold the fact against you with a lower grade.

And if it should transpire that she finds out you tried to get a new supervisor and you feel your final grade suffers because of this you can always appeal it.

But ask her outright for help/suggestions first. That way, if she is not forthcoming or less than helpful, she will know you had a justification for wanting a change.

Good advice. Also she takes her time replying to emails. I think I'll wait, I've emailed her a request for references on Saturday, I'll see how long it will take for her to reply and then assess what to do. I'm not paying ALL that money for fun, if she does not sort herself out, I'll have to say something.

Hey Lil Thug, did you manage to chnage your supervisor?

I decided to stick with her in the end. I've been working on it by myself...for now, I have other deadlines that I have to meet first (which are stressing my head btw), soI am concentrating on those, but from May I will be hounding the woman down whether she likes it or not.
