Hi I'm new to all this but here goes with my question I hope someone can help me answer it...
I have just booked a holiday to Bulgaria with my 14 yr old son in a couple of weeks. However since booking it I have been reading more about the place on the internet and from its past history I am now worried how the local people there will react to being around black people. I am sure other tourists wont be an issue, but I have never been to that part of Europe before and was fine about it until I read deeper. Hope you can help me out here?

Thank you for letting me see those reports they made very interesting reading. I am bit worried about going on my holiday now but seems like we will have to go with an open mind as I dont want to judge people before I even meet them and hope it turns into a good experience. I will let you know how we found it once we return to the UK.

I really hope you have a good holiday but excuse me if Im blunt but you will have little chance of dispelling ignorance and predujice.n Its like going on holiday in the American South in an isolated hill billy town and trying to show them how good black people are. You think they will be interested?

As for being concerned about African debt resolutions I would think your primary and most important concern should be the safety of you and your son. Eastern Europe on a whole is not safe for black people/ they do not like blacks and will willingly abuise them. I have worked with people who have had to go Poland and refused a lucrative contract in Russia precisely for that reason. The reports are no exception as the Bulgarian women in the report herself has testified.

Heres hoping you stay safe regardless how your holiday is. I wouldnt be taking my children anywhere near the place.

And please come back and tell us how it was. Im interested to hear how it goes.

Can you not at least simply cancel and book somewhere else? Sorry but if that was me there's no way in hell I'm pouring money into that country's economy only for people to disrespect me and whoever I travel with. Believe me I learned that lesson years ago when I went to Zakynthos.

Too many of us walk around with this notion that if we hold our breath and tread on eggshells, then people will "like" us. Sorry but that's bull. Racism against Africans in these eastern european countries is extremely prevalant and too many naive Africans will only come with nonsense like "if you're looking for racism you'll find it".....try telling that to people who have visted with an "open mind" who've ended being attacked or even murdered. This isn't la la land unfortunately.

No point visiting somewhere if you're going to be apprehensive beforehand.

I have been to many Countries and Places where the population have not seen a Black person live or it was a rare event. Often times their behavour is a combination of ignorance and curiousity. Anyone who knows me knows that tredding on eggshells is not my particular style at all, more like using a Slegdehammer to crack a nut.

Often times, These people with no experience of a "Colonial" mindset have had their information and beliefs given to them from secondary sources. As a primary source I lead by example. I am not a timid mouse scarrying away from percieved situations.

There aren't any black people in vulgaria, and yet they hate us with a passion. Think about that for a while before you buy a ticket. What kind of mentality does it take to hate someone with a passion for no reason what so ever?

BTW Dada.. with all due respect you're talking madness. Its all very well playing Johnny Rambo by yourself as a man and settling the outer frontiers of the African presence. But you want to encourage a black women and child to go to a racially charged area where they have been killing and hunting gypsies because of their perceived African heritage for a few 100 years now. This is a woman and her teenage child we are talking about. Not ex army personnel.
