Life's too short to be trying to find information on goverment web sites.

I can tell you that you can receive up to the equivalent of £18 before you get any charges. Above a value of £18 and the charges are based on both the value of goods AND their shipping cost.

I'm guessing your package will be more than £18 / US$35. Sometimes if the shipping costs are reasonable it can be more practical to get several smaller consignments and avoid any charges whatsoever.

When I buy records from Jamaica they are sent by FedEx and the customs invoice arrives through the post from FedEx maybe a fortnight later.

In my experience you can reckon on:

1) import duty @ about 3.5% on top of the total cost of the goods + their shipping cost (multiply by 1.035)

2) VAT @ 17.5% of the total goods + their shipping cost + import duty (multiply by 1.175)

3) an administration charge of £4.50

So you're looking at adding over a fifth on top of your total cost ...
