Yes Mafdet more or less said all that can be said on the issue of food and men. I agreed with what she said Totally. Women in general get a great deal of satisfaction watching a man (and their children) consume the food they have cooked for them. Its hard to explain the warm feeling you get from deep within when your man and family are satisfied by what you cooked for them. A lot of energy goes into preparing food, a lot of magic! Personally I would never eat food that someone had cooked who was in an angry mood...Bad Energy!!

When I was first married I did not know how to cook Jamaican food. My Father liked and favoured plain boring British food, so thats what my Mother provided for him. Its interesting that when I began my quest for knowledge (of Jamaican food) information started popping up all over the place...magazines, TV cook shows...a woman I met in Sainsburys! I Had to know how to cook what he desired...I knew no other way to be!

I;m the same with my teenage son. He absolutely Loves Italian food, especially my meat balls and spaghetti. It makes me happy to watch him eat it. Notice how often women sit and watch a man eat! I know that long after I;m gone from this world he will always remember how good I made meatballs. Cooking is a Powerful thing. Our survival depends on Food!

My Grandmother fed everyone who came to her house. My Mother does the same. When I cook I have to make a lot, because always someone will pop in at dinner time, and I like to be able to offer them some. My kitchen is a Soul kitchen.

Someone once said "The way to a man;s heart is not through his belly...you have to aim lower".

I think it has to be Both! niceone.gif

I agree totally with you and you are correct some over here but definitely in Jamaica did you know that if the women is vex the man won’t touch the food or even go and dish out for himself. I don’t know of any family in Jamaica where the women doesn’t dish out the mans food even if the man did cook it.blknoway

[color=red]Well you know what they say "the a way to a man heart is through his belly and the way to mash a man heart is through his wallet."blkdevillol

[color=black]Sometimes when my guy has been working and rushing around and comes in late its my pleasure to get up and get him some food and sit at the table with him while he talks to me about his day between eating. This is a comfort to me, everyone who knows me knows that my kitchen is the heart of the house, if someone wants to see me to chat I always usher them in the Kitchen, I got this habit from my mother and she from her mother.

In fact one of my sweetest memories I have is in the kitchen in Jamaica with my mother, grandmother and Auntie’s cooking up a feast for all the men who were soon to come in from the grounds (harvest time). This was also special for me at the age of 14 because just being a part of it meant to these veterans of cooking to include me meant I have met their standards because cooking Caribbean food is no joke as I am sure of other cultures and countries. I actually think English food is the easiest to cook, but this food couldn’t be cooked in my fathers house so we the girls had to learn how to cook good quick and fast to help my mother. I know of Nigerians, Spanish, and Italian all other nationalities in my age group that got the same training from their mothers.

I remember at the age of 12 talking to friends at the weekends to ask them if they want to come out and play, but you always had to ask them if they have done their chores and cooked the food first, because this was common amongst my generation especially on the weekend and nobody blinked an eye at this it was expected of us.

A lot of people turn up there nose at cooking but to cook good food is an art. I know of women in their 30’s today who ask me questions on how to cook a particular dish and they always say they wish they paid more attention to their mothers. They are not cooking these dishes for themselves because why the sudden change at this age in their lives, no its for their man. I know one girl who lived on junk food 24/7 and as far as she was concerned cooking was ripping open the packet and popping it in the oven or microwave. Her pots and pans were still in the package she brought them in and I knew her for 5 years. Now she cooks everyday and is always phoning her mum for instructions because she has met a guy who loves good home cooked food. I nearly dropped on the spot when she phoned me up to ask me where can she buy a good pot for cooking stew meat and chicken in that won’t stick.

But more importantly when you find the right man you are going to want to cook for him I honestly do believe that natural instinct kicks in.So Ladyday a modern day man may be modern but good home cooked food is ageless and discriminates noone niceone.gif

Kind of makes me sad to see young boys and teenagers these days holding up the pizza and chicken shops after school. I think to myself "Look at these kids poisoning themselves and liking it", worse still, so are the girls. I know only a couple of friends whose daughters and son actually have traditional upbringing where they learn to cook both English and West Indian food.

When my son was about 3/4 I remember him watching a Heinz Tomato soup advert and saying "Mummy dats not real soup ish it?". He's used to his soup with every blessed thing in it, pumpkin, chou-chou, yam, meat, fresh thyme and the king....... CAAARNMEALDUMPLING!!

I know this is but the other day I pointed something out to a friend when driving through Camberwell. I noticed many restaurants Greek, Italian, Cuban, Chinese, Indian etc and they all had their own nationality people in it. When you looked at the cheap dirty chicken takeaways and kebab shops totally packed out with black people.

@Mafdet

True what you say about young people always in the take-aways. Even though I do cook good food for my family, my son still frequents these places. Sometimes at night he will come home late with a Doner kebab. It actually makes my skin crawl and my stomach turn to look at the thing there on his plate. Even my dog will turn his nose up at it!

I wonder if these burgers etc contain some kind of chemicals that are making kids actually addicted to them. I;ve noticed with my son, he can only eat one Burger-King burger, but he could eat 2 or 3 Big Macs from McDonalds. Also notice the size of the teenage girls these days. They not just plump...they;re so Tall and plump. They all look the same too. Low slung jeans with loads of belly and love handles hanging over.

What makes me cross is the way these companies seduce our young children into wanting their food with all these "Happy Meals" and toys and crap. I try so hard with my little girl to keep her out of these places, then she sees an advert showing latest McDonald toy, from latest Disney movie and she wants it! Or some kid at school has a Birthday party there and she wants to go!!

Biggest insult was the other day. I cooked a Beautiful vegetable curry with coconut creme. I cooked it 2 days before I served it so that the flavours could merge. I gave some to my son and a couple of his mates. They all said how come it dont taste like it does from the Asian takeaway. I nearly threw it on them, but instead I told them about an article I read on specimens taken from Asian shop curry. Some contained traces of urine and semen. My curry contains good ingredients and plenty of Love! Hope I;ve put them off the Indian takeaway for Liife.

Dont have any of these problems or criticisms from grown men. They are always appreciative of the food I cook. It makes a man feel loved when he knows you;ve bothered to serve him up something scrummy. But I feel the teenagers are a lost cause when it comes to food!

That's so true. 9 times out of 10 it's always black people in these fast food shops and it's quite sad to see that junk food is a big part of their diet. I blame the parents mostly because when I was a kid I was only allowed to have fast food oncein a blue moon.Too many parents allow their children to have this garbageeveryday without even bothering to cook or teaching their children to cook, then we wonder why the kids are getting so big and more susceptible to illnesses. They're not having enough nutrition in their bodies to sustain them. If the parents themselves don't know how to cook then they can always purchase a caribbean cookbook and learn from there.

It's just exploitation, because I've noticed in the past few yearsthat there aredozens of chicken shops springing up on every street and they are always packed out. Not only are black people damaging their health but they are spending money they don't have. My mum always told me that the few pounds you spend in Pizza Hut could be used to buy fresh fish and vegetables in the market. Now it's up to the point where if I even have a taste of something that isn't good for me I feel guilty! But ever since cutting out red meat and eating healthier I've found that my energy levels have increased and my skin is smoother.

Isn't it interesting that "bare black people" are in these chicken, kebab, pizza boothsand most chinese takeaways and yet no asians visit the chicken shops run by them, no Italians in the pizza places and definitely no chinese in the takeaways!!

I can never forget my trip to New York approx 2 years ago. There was a mall opposite where we were staying and they had the usual "all you can eat" buffet, place was stacked with a huge array of food that you could buy for next to nothing and who were the majority....yes the blacks, and the other thing they had in common was their size, no one was below size 16 and I'm not kidding, there was one set on a table opposite who were a real representation of The Klumps and they were diving back and forth refilling their plates....MSG was running wild round the place!! The chinese staff were as thin as rakes and when they took their breaks, their food was in complete contrast to what was being sold to the public....steamed fish and vegetables with minimal bowls of rice!!

My "auntie" said US blacks don't cook, certainly not in New York, she said it's part of the way of life to eat out but she said you'd find people of west indian origin more often than not, would cook food.

Well spotted sis I too have noticed this, my father told me if you don’t see the same country man eating from his own food place then you shouldn’t eat there aswell. Infact a chinese man told me that if you go to soho look for the chinese shop where you see the natives eating for the sign of a good restaurant.

Also about our buffet scene sis if you ever see them in Atlanta you would scream.

About the American cooking I remember going to visit some friends in New York and the lady neighbour who was their at the time sent her children to go and buy chinese. The joke was they came back with fried chicken wings and rice, so I asked where is the chinese. They turned to me and said this is chinese. Girl I fell on the floor laughing I told them just because a chinese cooked it don’t make it chinese food, you know even the mother started to argue with me that it is chinese. I took the big chinese menu (you must’ve seen th
