Niggaz and black people is there a difference. Chris Rock quote"I like black people, but I hate niggaz", what do you think?. What defines a black person and what defines a nigga, or does black/nigga equal the same?

Some what confused by this one......

****** is an offensive term oringally used to describe black people by racist white people. It seems to be used by black people (less so these days thankfully) as some kind of ironic slang.

I dont think you can really define it since its a stupid word based on stupidity. Chris used it in a certain way and im sure others use it in their own way. Chris obviously meant ignorantblack peoplethough it is not always used in this way.

The difference between a Blackman and a ****** is a black man is used to describe a man who is sort of black in colour (brown usually but black to a white man i guess lol) where as ****** is not a man it is a derogatory term.

Its like asking what the difference is between a women and a bitch....a women is a women and a bitch is a female dog.

Well, interesting to see how quickly this topic changed!! I remember seeing this routine by Chris and what he was getting at was that just when black people have something to be proud of interms of advancement in society (or even on a smaller scale), somebody - a nigga (different from ******) - comes along and ****s it up for everyone. Either by curtailing that advancement or projecting a negative image that overshadows the positive image that the "black people" had worked so hard at...
Quote:
So the question remains: "What defines a black person and what defines a nigga, or does black/nigga equal the same?" This routine caused a lot of talk along the same lines and it would be hard to try and state that there are definite and distinct differences. Chris Rock was making the point that "niggas" are destructive and black people are productive. There is a whole movement going on at the moment against rappers/drug dealers et al because they are seen as a destructive force in society, especially in black societies. Therefore, these could be said to be your "niggas". Your black people are those that strive to bring black people forward, those who you might say are positive role models - Colin Powell (you have no idea how it galls me to write that, but he is seen as a role model...), various powerful and established black lawyers, business people and so forthwho you'll always find published in Ebony magazine. Or looking at movies, something like "Boyz In Da Hood", or "Gridlocked" could be seen as a "nigga" movie, whereas "The Wood" could be seen as a "black people" movie, if that makes sense...
[quote]That's what I think Chris Rock was getting at, whether or not it is a flawed concept...

I use to agree with all of what Lucas said BUT I think times has changed. I have said this before andI will say it again - words are like living things; over periods of time they do change their meaning to almost unrecogniseble status and their original impacts are also lost. I use to hate, (and still do, to a certain extent), dislike it when my daughters would bring home hip- hop records containing these words. Now its just everyday stuff. I doubt ifI would like it if a white person was to call me nigga, but asI explained to my daughters - that is how far the word can get to - to the point that the word nigga/****** etc.,could be used by a white person to a black person and no offence would be taken!!!!

****** / negro: This is what we were told to be, when we ruled not our destiny.

Black PEOPLE: This is what with knowledge of self, we then strove to be and to be seen as such. A commuinty in unity.

Nggas/Niggaz (see ******): Through ignorence and lack of knowledge, this is what some of our number have chosen.

To become:

Slaves competing to see who has the biggest chain.

God Guide us.

In my city in the Southwest USA, nigga is someone who embodies the getto. It isn't a ignorant, stupid, or foolish person. It's someone who has to endure the struggles of the hood, which makes us strong. 2pac & Will Smith, Pac was a nigga Will is what I consider just a black man. 2Pac was far from stupid, but stayed true to himself and didn't change who he was for nobody. Niggaz are like modern day field slave who don't suck d!ck to get ahead or for "Masters" table scraps
