I have been browsing the different forums and I have noticed that with the prevalence of so many biracial black female stars, that the lines of who is mixed and who is not are becoming blurred. I wanted to take the time to write that there are many unmixed beautiful black American females. When I say unmixed that would mean not since thiergrandmothers have they had a direct parental ancestor of a different race or the category "mixed from slavery" can be included in the unmixed.

Unmixed parentage

Tyra Banks, Iesha Tyler, Garcell Beauvais, Beyonce Kowles, Tweet, Ananda Lewis , Gabrielle Union, Robin Givens, Vivica Fox, Angela Bassett, Lela Rochon, NaomiCampbell. Nia Long, Jada Pinkett Smith, Dianna Ross, Whitney Houston, Vanessa Williams, Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Latoya London, Fantasia Barrino, Solange Knowles,Nona Gay, Omarosa ManigualtStalworth, Eve, Queen Latifah, Ashanti, Laila Ali, Meagan Goode, Monica, , Raven-Symone, Lisa Raye, Wendy Rachel-Robinson,Kelita Smith, Khandi Alexander, Malinda Williams, Nicole Ari Parker, Toni Braxton,Tamyra Gray, Free

Mixed

Halle Berry, Alisha Keys, Mya, Blue Cantrell, Faith Evans, Tatyana Ali, Amerie, Chile, Charlie Baltimore

I think that Holloywood hypes up the mixed black women more than real black women, which causes people to think that the only good looking black American women "have to be mixed" . I do not think that this is true at all. I think the real black women outnumber the mixed ones in Hollywood and areequally attractive.

Note: many people think that Beyonce and Ashanti are mixed when in fact they are not, they are both black American women with two black parents! In the end we are all black, (mixedincluded)and should be unified but it appears that many whites and non-blacks are promoting this image (just because many pretty black women are in the limelight) that one has to have mostly other than black blood to be beautiful.

You make it sound as though its just a problem in America. In almost every TV show in Britain, the 'token' black woman is mixed. I don't know if this is to help the white majority have some kind of affinity with the black minority or because mixed people are closer to them than we are. Personally I'm not all that bothered until I see true blacks bleaching their skin in order to feel 'accepted' in society. I don't know if you can blame the media for this act of cultural denial, or just their individual insecurities. I don't give a damn if white people can't understand black beauty, as long as us brothas take care of our sistas and promote our love for them, then nothing else matters.

Ashanti is part Native-American. And i thought Raven-Symone was half white. Even on the "unmixed" section of names, many of the girls still look like they could be mixed. Does it really matter? Just accept that the whiter/lighter a girl looks the prettier she will seem to ALL races--Especially black. I'm not saying this is right, but this is reality. Just accept it and move on.

@ Tantilise, dat is the real beauty of b'n black, the different shades & stuff which makes us special..I hear the "if they is mixed they are cast as black" 2 true the only time that don't happen is when the person looks white eg: Ryan Giggs (boo cant stand ManUnited, Liverpool 4 ever) but his dad is black..Nice1

You know something? I have never actually heard first hand any granny/mom/say that. I have heard people say that 'it is something that black people say' but have never been in the presence of a granny-type that said it. Certainly none of my grans (when they were alive) and certainly not my mum said anything like that in my presence.

Is it just me being an exception or are they others out there who never actually heard 'first hand' stuff like that from their mums/gran moms?

By the way, each time I see a picture of Beyonce she appears to be getting lighter. I was wondering if it is to do with the media 'touching' up the photo or if she is actually getting lighter. Is there anyone who has seen her in the flesh over a period of time and is able to comment? I know the 'blond' hair is down to her but I was wondering about the complexion in the photos.

I know the 'presentation' of black celebrities has had the 'lightening' treatment before when their photo complexion looks far removed from their real complexion. I remember one of Serena Williams where not only was she lighter by several shades, but her body shape had been transformed unbelievably.
Anyway I was curious about Beyonce.

Personally I think ALL shades of blackwomanhood is beautiful, as long as what is inside (or appears to be inside) shines through by the way their carry themselves with pride and assuredness............PRIDE IN THEIR 'BLACKNESS' NO MATTER ITS SHADE!

YOU ARE WRONG ASHANTI IS NOT MIXED TWO COMPLETELY BLACK PARENTS, NO NATIVE AMERICANparents.See this is exactly what this forum is about , you think these women are mixed when they are not. I have done my research non of the women on the unmixed list have mixed parents. Check out the Essence magazine she was in, she has two black parents. Raven -Simone also HAS TWO BLACK PARENTS.That is the very problem today we THINK PEOPLE BLACK PEOPLE ARE MIXED WHEN THEY ARE NOT. That is my point of what the media is trying to do, make you think everyone black and famous and beautiful is mixed there are LOTS AND LOTS OFUNMIXED BEAUTIES. BLACK PEOPLE HAVE TO GET OUT OF THIS MIXED STUFF AND TALK, BECAUSE OF SLAVERY MANY WOMEN LOOK MIXED BUT ARE NOT. WE HAVE TO DEFINE BLACK AND RECOGNIZE WHAT IS GOING ON, WHICH IS THE TENDENCY OF THE MEDIA TO ERASE COMPLETE "BLACKNESS ALONG WITH BEAUTY". I sincerely believe insecure whites are threatened by black beauty and mixed wannabee blacks are threatened by unmixed blacks that look like them but are not mixed. There is a growing population of biracial black /white people who want to define themselves as a separate race from black in America (check out interacial voice, and mixed folks.com websites)who are aiding white Americans, black traitors in promoting this "mixed" up image, pulling in light skinned unmixed black who look like them. With all of these mixtures we need to define what and who a real black is. I think it stops at immediate parents, if they are both majority over 50% black then you are black.
