I had a friend who did come out of the closet and to be honest it didn't shock me because from school days I thought he was gay but what did shock me was the reaction of his closet friends. We all were a social group but they were closer to him than me and knew him longer and I just couldn't overstand why they were shocked. Til this day I think they knew all along and had a feeling he was gay but was shocked he chose to come out I think they feared their reputation of being his friend more than anything.
In school this guy always moved with the girls and everyone knows boys move in their circles and talk about girls and girls move in their circle and talk about boys so if you got a boy moving with girls in school he wants to join in the convosations about boys with the girls right there was the first clue.
I still considered myself a friend when I found out but he came out the closet and then left the country. Thats what a hardcore west indian community can do to you make you spill the beans and then run out of the country. To think he jumped up and jammed to Boom bye bye at carnival and everythingconfused3

@Timeline-Keep on talking that 10-23% gay talk, you'll have the men on this Board beating down your door, lol. I have a female cousin who's gay. She always gotten her share of interest from men, but when they find out she's gay, she has to damn near beat em off with a stick(they eventually give up though, cuz she's 100%gay), she also has to beat off her share of so-called straight women, but that's another topic, for another day. A woman who likes men and likes women, but doesn't like women enough to leave them, for one......I don't care what anyone says, that's a lot of men's dream.............
As far as the best friend thing, I think a lot of people, particularly Black folks, feel like we are supposed to have a problem with it, if someone close to us says their gay. It's like we feel like if we're too accepting of it, it may mean something about our own sexuality. If you're really tight with the person and love them, I think that you might be suprised at your reaction, if it really came down to it. When my cousin first came out, there were some in the family who got all upset and bent out of shape, distancing themselves, but once they saw they she went on with her life, and was still well liked and popular, the same sweet person as always, they figured out that not being in her life was their loss, not vice versa, and got over it,lol.

Darling he was what we call "a fag-hag-fag", a gay man or boy who likes to hang out with women or girls, especially glamourous strong women, usually he's effeminate and feels like one of the girls, he feels safe with them because he doesn't want to come out and face the realities of the gay lifestyle!

You also have the "fag-hags", women who like gay men, sometimes they even fall in love with their gay best friends(Will and Grace!), the go in gay bars, they are usually women who've had bad luck or experiences with men and feel safe with gay men cos they know nothing will happen, they are scared to go back into the hetero world and smell the custard again!
