Man works hard and puts his wife through school. She goes to lawschool and becomes a successful lawyer. Later in the marriage she decides to leave him for another woman. Man takes her to court and gets $1800 a month in spousal support in addition to child support.

Spousal support is bullshit. I'm not gonna switch and cheer just because the tables were turned this one time. It's a bullshit idea. You make your decisions as he did as an adult and you should live with the consequences and get a frigging job as an adult...

How long is spousal support meant to go on for? Till death? True say that is what is said in the vows.
However, it is a dumb rule. Perhaps till the person gets on their feet, a minimum of a year is enough if they have no other qualifications and such, only if one partner stayed at home tending to the kids etc. But other than that it is a chupid law.
Anyway this is a rich persons law. Dirt poor people need not apply. A percentage of nothing is nothing.

If you are dealing with babylons system then the law sucks big time. If you believe in marriage for cultural reasons as opposed to finance or babylon benefits then hold a ceremony in a remoteAfrican village where there are no legal bindings. For me marriage is symbolic, and if whoever you are marrying agrees then you will have no worries about your spouse taking you to the cleaners - indeed they will probably give the relationship more attention.

Lady Vee, I agree with you..I think drunkmonkey had it right when he said the SYSTEM of paying another ADULT support was the problem and NOT the gender of the people benefiting from this nonsense...
Child support i get, but spousal support I just can't get my head around..it seems to me that we are promoting infanticide.....
