Iwas listening to one of Heavy D's song's 'Black Coffee' the other day and just wanted to know what you would define as a beautiful woman inside and out.

@Leila 7. It is actually very hard to answer your question. We can agree this or that woman is physically bueatiful. We may even agree she has a bueatiful pressence or spirit or energy about her. But we are in no position to conclude whether she is bueatiful internally or spiritually, because we can only know people up close and then only when they face really testing situations or challenges. What the ancient Kemetians called cross road, things which ultimately test our character and reveal what we truly are deep down.
I like most of the world loved Lauryn Hill, but at deeper inspection she is not as concious as she portrays or what we think. Her sexual antics with both Daminen Marley and Wycleff and the circumstances of the birth of her child was nasty and not indicative of a higher woman.
One sister who I really rave about and rate big time both when I have seen her on video's and up close in flesh is the Rastafarian singer Sister Ifrica...Bueatiful black woman and wonderful pressence. Only hope her man or those who were in her lifethinks the same.
Peace

Thanks FredB for your reply, I understand what you're saying - even though a person maybe truly be beautiful on the outside possibly they and others don't always know what is truly inside them.
I don't know everything about Lauryn but I think it may have been her involvement with his older brother Rohan - can anyone confirm this?

Well, I don't tend to be as critical. I think all of us have our faults. We tend to put women up on some pedestal only to be tragically disappointed when theycan't live up to impossible standards.

For me a beautiful "Black" woman is much more than skin deep.

It's hard to explain. Like Naomi Campbell is really sexy and great to look at, but she gives off the vibe that she is just an ugly person. She doesn't seem to have any peace in her heartor soul.

There is a serenity that many "Black" women give off that most other women can't compare to. And I can give you no easy guide. Tyra Banks doesn't seem to have it, but Angela Bassett does. Halle Berry doesn't have it either, but India Arie does. Janet Jackson doesn't have it, butJill Scott does.Kelis doesn't have itbut Yolanda Adams does.

Maybe it's a genuine spirituality? I dunno. But thereis something about abeautiful "Black" woman who is at peace with herself, her community, and culture that seems to radiate from within. And you can see it.There is a quiet confidence, strength, and joy. With the two picture below, you get a distinctly differentvibe. Halle Berry is gorgeous, but everything is on the surface.

Yolanda Adams. . .well the photo speaks for itself.

Hi TheDogon
Forgive me if I am wrong. Are you saying if you are ugly on the outside then u are beautiful on the inside and vice versa? Thats the impression I got and the impression that you had given.
However I liked what you weresaying about spiritality and peace within yrself. As a black woman in todays world, I believe that you have to find that peace because it will make you strong and make you see beauty in its natural form, without being blind and romantic. Being at peace and content with whoyou are is a beauty all by its self.

I agree with you there, it's certainly the case that what'swithin onetends radiate on the surface, for those who are transparent.
For me the knowledge that I am fearfully and wonderfully made means that I’m happy and content inside; knowing that the way that God created me is no mistake, He knew what He was doing when he created me to be distinct from every other woman on this earth!. I’m not ‘pretty’ in the sense of the word but I know I make heads turn because of the acceptance I have within myself and the knowledge that I’m beautiful because God created me to be that way and that’s something that radiates from me. This also equates to a state of mind that is not dependent on what someone else’s opinion of me is - good or bad. The beauty have does not make me conceited but is a gift from God and so humbles me. (If that makes sense!)

personally i have always used the word beautiful to mean somebody who had both physical and soulful beauty.
many people stay on the surface and that suits them but personally i would prefere a beautiful man. a man that looks good to me physically but is captivating soulfully.
i also feel that women tend to want to get their acceptance from men particulaly with the mtv world we live in now where women are constantly being rated according to their looks and many of these women wear heavy makeup, can't hold a decent conversations (from interviews that i have read) and everything they have from the hair on their head to the nails were not given to them by god but by the man round the corner.
beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder and i wish that little girls were taught that beauty does in fact radiate outwards.
thats my input

culturally aware, spiritually grounded and beautifully unique

But as I have grown older, I have begun to see "Black" women much differently. Through no fault of their own, they have been demonized and mischaracterized as golddiggers, angry, hypersexual, or controlling. Some women feel the need to combat these stereotypes that are so prevalent. Whenpeople feel that they are besieged, they tend to strike back, which in turn fuels the crap stereotypes about them.

Some "Black" women seem to have realized the game and they have done this a lot faster than most "Black" men. I myself, am a Johnny-Come-Lately. Some "Black" women seem to find that simple understanding that they are "Black" and are truly beautiful no matter what prevails in the media.

Yolanda Adams is just as happy with her little husband and two kids singing Gospel music at a local church. She ain't trying to make the 10 most Beautiful women in Hollywood lists. She isn't trying to show her a$$ or get naked to draw some attention.

I think that about says it. Have you ladies ever dated a man who looked like he should have it together. . .butwas as shallow asbathwater? You know just by looking at Angela Bassett that she is deep and spiritual. Butthis culture promotesshallowness and looks. And it's become easier for me to look at different "Black" women and guess.

I can't fault them for being who they are. I felt a lot of pressureto become a shallow brotha. But in the end, I just optedfor something different. For some people, waking up and dealing with the matrix is a lot harder than following the butt in front of you.

Everyone has different tastes and the main argument with Naomi is that although facially she appealing to some she’s not as appealing within. Also we have to remember that she maybe dealing with or suppressing stuff that we don't even know about - lets hope she will be able to find peace within herself sooner rather than later - I will definitely say a prayer for her.
