I am a Black man and proud of it.work damm hard, never been to jail, never been in a gang, proud father to a son, so I have already broken many of the stereotypes that many people in our world believe about every black man. If I had 200kids, I would take care of them no matter how I felt about their mothers, because that is what real men do.

The only jewelry I own is my chain and bracelet(if you don’t count my Citizen Eco-Drive Sky Hawk watch). I don’t think that I need diamonds, which I believe are just good to look at because they have no other purpose. I don’t need an expensive car because I don’t “live in my car. No DVD players or TV’s in the steering wheel or any of that nonsense. I’m a simple man.

I think people, especially OUR people, waste too much money on cars, jewelry, rims, trying to either IMPRESS other people or “keep up with the Joneses. Many of our people confuse other people’s likes/wants/desires with our own. I don’t know how many times I have heard a guy talk about he got his expensive car (40K plus) because the women like it or so that he could pull women.

Aside from that many of us punish our kids by not paying support to get back at the mother which we can’t stand anymore. There is no reason not to pay child support when the kid is yours. None.

We are losing Black women to white males & lesbians. Many of us are thinking solely about pussy without any concern or thought about relationships. Many of us are afraid of marriage, like we think we are gonna miss something by being married. No matter how terrible condoms feel, you are much better off using one than not. Many of us don’t realize that unprotected sex leads to kids and worse. Don’t start on “babies are blessings, because a baby can derail life/career plans like a drunk train operator making a sharp turn at 70 MPH. If you aren’t ready for that responsibility AND the financial responsibility you are in trouble.

I am not saying we have to live like saints, and not buy anything we don’t need. I am saying we have to be smarter about our money decisions for one. The expensive car market targets us. We pay big bucks for cars, yet we are renting and not owning. We feel we have to be the first on our block to get this or that, and it is not a diploma or degree. We have kids spread out all over the city, and a different girl 2 to 3 times a week. Many of us are grown men living like we are in high school. Tricks are for kids. We need to grow up. We base our life decisions on what “our boys will think of it or her. One of my friends dumped a girl he really liked because his boys called her ugly. She wasn’t ugly to him, but he couldn’t stand the ridicule or stand up for himself so he left her alone.

The whole world looks at us like a joke. Driving around in our Lexus’ and Beamers, when we would be much better off buying a little less expensive car and saving some of that money. Black women go to white men because the think that black men aren’t worth the trouble. I know I am all over the map, and this lacks structure, but it is Sunday . What can we do as black men to change our image, to reinvent ourselves so that we can be proud of ourselves?

First black men don't control the media. So i have no personal responsibility for those who do other than to protest or used organised power to bring about change if that is strategically possible within available resources.

Secondly, you can do nothing about those who are so inclined to act in these ways except to challenge it when it manfiests and take it from there.

Thirdly, and where I do make the point strongly it is where you do have power such as here that men should act appropriately eg not starting shit threads about how many women you ****ed in the quickest or shortest time.

Fourthly, you cannot live life or fight a battle strategically by constantly responding to your enemies agenda or imagery. Those men who are not like that simply continue doing what they do and improve and develop the appropriate strategies, mechanisms and organisations and networks..

Don't live my life saying I don't wear jewellery which I don't or never have minus my wedding ring and watch or I don't own a lexus or I don't chase half white/red skin women. **** that.

Men live their lives in the affirmative not constantly reacting to brainless and confused fools. The only women who I need to establish my image with are those who it is already well established with. Not women here or young girls..

Trust me when I go into my lecture hall or seminar room or have a one to one with a student I have no need to establish my image with anyone. It done establish long time and that is the same else where.

Peace.

Bp that was a joy to read, an acknowledgment to us moving forward as a people. clp)As a Black woman, I stand up and say we too need to come correct as well.

God determines who walks into your life...It's up to you who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go. May God bless all of you and your life be full of Peace, Prosperity, Love and Abundance. Amen

Image and self are two different things. I only care about improving the latter.

I dont think that anyone really sees all Black men in this way and I think you're actually quite paranoid.

Im not disputing that the stereotype doesnt exist butI don't think you should be concerned about the perceptions of the type of person (even if they are Black) that beleive that allBlack menare like that.

Basicly, every Black person with sense knows that the massive majority of Black men are decent guys. (White peoplemight think otherwise but that DEFINITELY isnt worth caring about!)

Well yes and no. I have no mandate or moral obligation to save the black male world or everyblack man in Britain on the assumption that they want to be saved. I have an obligtion first to myself and those around me eg family kin, bredrin and so forth and so on and those I have vowed to assist eg organised brothers and sisters attempting to make a difference or provide service. I have a ethical duty, and probably do more than most to make sure in my work enemy proganda about black men or women for that matter does not go unchallenged and it does not.

So yep if mine are alright I am quite happy. I don't have to sweat myself outside of that.

You don't win no war by allowing your enemy to define for you what the problem is and then by extension attempt to response in the oppositeconfused3.

f**k them what did Lenin say no man can live in state of permanent opposition.

It's a bit like Kunjufu's argument on the gun crime thing which I support down the line vis a vis gun crime and I have argued elsewhere. Why am I being asked to sort out all the missing father's in the country when I never grind any of those women or never tricked them into pregnancy.

Black men have to be wise and don't let the system take us in with this shit about we are responsible for institutional behaviour or marketing strategies.

I am responsible for what I am responsible for. As Master Bob said I shot the Sherrif..Nuff said..

REAL TALK: What can we do as Black Men improve the perception of Black Men?

Looking through the Men's folder, I'd say things would improve slightlyif 90% of the people who participate in it alotwould die or develop Parkinson's disease.

Though perhaps the best bet is to hope that theother races are blind.

An even better bet is to develop an individual personality, and not do andtalk the same shite as the next person. Then perhaps people won't have reason to use race as an excuse for certain behaviours.

Personally I say any race that gets negative stereotypes evenoff their own is in big trouble. Irreversible trouble at that.

The only positive I can think of is that things won't be too bad for all that long since alot of black men who are the main cause of the stereotypes don't breed withtheir ownanyway.
