It's not foreign here. The character "Omar", from the tv show the wire, is the quintisential representation of that phenomenon. There are books about here,even. One book called B-Boy Blues that deals with the whole phenomenon. It makes sense really. In white gay male culture you always had the idea of taking masculinity so far, exaggerating it so much, that it becomes "butch" in an over the top GAY role playing way, the whole biker with the leather and bushy mustache, persona, etc. A lot of what Black male rappers do in hip hop TOTALLY fits into that category.....

The idea that men having sex with men automatically equals femininity or acting like a girl is a recent phenomenon. The whole "cissy",effeminate,limp wristed,lisping thing is a fairly modern creation/affectation. Men had sex with men historically in places like Rome and masculinity and being martialistic/warrior like were very much prized. If you study Roman culture, they didn't look down on men who had sex with men, or doubt their masculinity, but they DID look down on men who acted like women(whether they had sex with men or not). They did not view those things as necessarily synonymous,cause they weren't, in that culture.....

lol - some jokes in here. I remember using ambi as a teenager to rid myself of acne scars, never for one second thought it was to actually bleach skin in what I know it to be now. I had bad spots as a teen, just glad I had dark skin which help to camouflage it
