Have you ever finished a game of monopoly? -

Have never finished a game, don't think I know of anyone who has, seems to go on forever until someone has to go.
What happens at the end anyway?... Would almost expect the mascot to pop out from somewhere with his bankers hat throwing money around, some pyrotechnics hidden in a compartment under the board or something.

What happens is that very few people read the rules properly and make up their own. That makes the game go on longer.
The rules I specifically mean are dealing out two random properties to each player at the start of the game, and auction bidding. (Look in the book, they're there). When you land on a square you don't want to buy it IMMEDIATLY goes to auction between the other players. Also you use your turn to swap and trade properties or deals with other players.
If you omit these rules (as most people do) then the game goes on forever. Playing properly, with four or five players it can be over in an hour
BTW off topic but there is no such thing as "immunity" in the game. People need to stop that nonsense. Before we got hooked on poker my boys and I used to play monopoly quite often.

was playing one christmas with my aunt and sisters and we finished a game.
I remember i had two properties of a particular colour and my sister had the other one. When she wasn;t looking i "misappropriated" it and charged her a ton of rent every time she landed on one of the colours!
It was real sweet while it lasted, but then i got busted and went real bakrupt real quick!
A lesson for life methinks...

@TW I TRY yo play by the rules, but my family thinks i am being too boring and have no patience with it. They also think it somehow makes the game longer (i guess because of double checking to make sure no one is being jipped!) They may be surprised to know it would end alot faster if the rules ar stuck to!

I've read those rules but have never played a game with them. Must try that.
The ending I'm used to is that there are two players left cos everyone else has gone bust, and no more property to buy. The one with the most cash (including assets) wins. Does take a while to get there........

Playing by the rules I specified, as stated in the manual the game will fly by. People will be bankrupted faster. Also since the auction means players don't have to wait to land on a square themselves (something which may never happen), you can simply bid your way to complete sets. This also means your money flies down faster and you can be knocked out of the game too.
Monopoly shouldn't go over an hour, at most 90 mins. If it does, you're playing it wrong lol

I love playing monopoly but time and patience are a must because they can take ages if everyone gets involved and beings a game plan. I got addicted to monopoly I was playing it on my phones on a regular, train journeys flew by till scrabble took over. Yes the pyro comes out if your playing it as a computer game - I have it for PS2 but don't own the regular board game myself. Playing by the rules including auction does speed things up most definitely

How cool would it be to play with real money though??? say like each player had to bring £150k into the game, then a proper banker was hired, real money Monopoly surely would sharpen you up quick fast.I imagine it must have been done in Vegas or something by now???,dont for a minute think i've just come up with some brilliant idea.................anyway............
The first time I ever played Monopoly I was 7,I played it with this girl named Yvette, she was 12,I lost and started crying my eyes out...it must have been some sort of omen, coz i've been shit with money ever since!
I aint asking for nothing, just open the door and i\'ll take it myself-James Brown.

Mate, this part is made up.
Monopoly is my favourite board game but I prefer poker just about. Actually I don't know.

I've just read the rules and have realised you (Watcher) are playing the rules for the short game. In that case, you must state a time when the game must end. A game could therefore last 10 minutes.

Poker is definatly the best card game out there, used to like rummy but forgot how to play... not that I can play poker either only played a few times but it was cool, my type of game.
Didn't know there were diffrent ways to play monopoly, is it the best board game? Can't think of any other thats as good.
