Amongst family and friends I use my married name. For business I use my maiden name as my husband and I don't like to let on we're married to potential clients. My husband wasn't bothered either way although when we have kids they will have his name.

I'm not feeling that.

If a woman wants to spend the rest of her life with me, why wouldn't she want to have my name?

I hear that in African marriages men take the last name of the woman. That sounds pretty interesting.

@Alabamagirl and Imoco...actually, the Mrs thing has nothing to do with Africans. There is a thread somewhere here that touched on this very same issue. No one was able to actually translate the word'Mrs' in ANY African language(and we all know we have 1000s of languages)

Hence this Mrs idea is just one of the multitudes of Western adopted ideologies or traditions by Africans.

I intend to keep my name. I am not a property to be branded by another human being's name just because we are married. From my understanding, marriage is a UNION of 2 people.....an equal partnership, therefore i fail to see how a woman taking the man's name holds up to anything of substance. Me think some men obssess about this because it will finally make them feel like they are something special.....

....Yes, but Mez has a point. What is more puzzling to me is that some men find the issue a deal breaker.......what exactly does it represent to some of you?
