Thank you. This was an informative piece. Nonetheless, I thought it was strange that there was no mention of the Sirius Star in relationship to the Egyptian Sothic Calendar. While the "Great Year" and the "Sothic Year" are two different events, the two obviously have correlations in ancient Egyptian cosmology. It was also strange that Egypt was lumped into the geographic category of the "Middle East" and the name of the continent of Africa is never mentioned in the whole piece. It kind of annoyed me that James Earl Jones narrated a show that omits so much of his history.

Overall, however, I did learn a few things about the stars.

Htp Neferkare,

Good eye! I too noticed the complete absence of Afrikan civilizations and their rise and decline. The Dogon, Sirius and Sothic calendar were also omitted. This alone tells me that the source is biased towards anglo-saxons propaganda. Westerners' 'dark ages' was Africa's Golden Age, this turns the theory on its head. That said, there is a small 'nugget' inasmuch as the Earth's axis and the positioning of planetary activity. As we know, the moon which orbits this planet has a magnetic pull on it. Does this affect us physically? Many women on a natural cycle could answer yes. Could other planetary alignments have an effect?, I suspect yes, but this would require many years of research (by Afrikans and from and Afrikan perspective) and a thorough study of places like Dendera and Afrikan cosmology. I am not an astronomer, nor academically inclined to do such work - I also know that the ancients thought process was not a linear one. To think physically, scientifically, spiritually and metaphysically/esoterically simultaneously is not something left linear thinkers (Caucasians) can achieve (ever imo). Until the time that such research can be commenced, my opinion has to be that this is just Caucasians trying to understand Afrikan metaphysics.

Peace

Point. Didn't pick up on that one.

We must have our own interpretation of the 'Great years' would be good to find out more about it from our own perspective.

I wanted to know if the Dagara elders could tell the diffrence between fiction and reality. The elders did not understand what a starship is, they did not understand what the fussy uniforms had to do with anything but they recognized in Spock a Kontomble of the seventh planet... they had never seen a Kontomble that big.

@ Sekhmet

When I read your most recent post I thought of Martin Bernal’s ground breaking distinction between what he calls the “Aryan Model” versus the “Ancient Model.” The second model represents a more realistic way of understanding the transmission of knowledge throughout the world, with Africa being the birthplace of a host of innovations. The first model attributes the advancement of the ancient world to Europeans. In the past 20 years, more and more scholars, convinced by the evidence, are shifting to a view of history grounded in the Ancient model. The video, however, almost seems to be stuck in the 1970s. As you mentioned, more than just another scholar’s opposing viewpoint, the video almost seems to go out of its way to avoid African contributions.

To the unsuspecting viewer, a video that so technically explains the physics of the earth and stars, must be as equally astute at accurately nailing down who the world’s first stellar geniuses were. But, astronomy is grounded in “objective science” and the other research is a combination of objective and subjective archeological story telling. Under the system of colonialism, the colonists frequently presented superior technology (science) as a means of deceiving the indigenous people into accepting the purely subjective policies that were soon to follow.

I agree with you. The “expertise” of this video makes it a dangerous piece of propaganda. The use of James Earl Jones only compounds my suspicion.

Peace!

@Black Lion

Yes, we must study the great year from our own perspective. Err . . . umh, I do not know of any Black scholars doing this. I am sure it is happening somewhere, but you know how it is. Someone could be discovering the cure for cancer and it would not be meaningful until the world found out about it. I have mentioned before that a Frenchman named Robert Bauval has introduced some ground breaking evidence suggesting that the Egyptians became more potent during certain times on the Sothic Calendar. I would love to see Africans flesh this out for ourselves. I have yet to purchase a copy of one of his books and he has very little posted on the web, but check that cat out when you can.

Holla!

Htp Neferkare,

Thanks for the 'heads up' on Bernal and other author - some others to add to wish list. I concede your point on the 'unsuspecting' viewer, and as most people only have knowledge of the Gregorian calendar as a marker of time and along with the lilting voice of Jones, I see your point. I have a few books,(which I had to dig out ) one being Sacred Science by R. A. Schwaller de Lubicz and Temple of the Cosmos by Jeremy Naydler, both discuss the Sothic Calendar (each quite lengthy) and processional cycle and the Neter whose influence colors all other principles. Aquarius - "a sign represented on Dendera zodiac by two vases from which water pour; this symbol is placed in the hands of the Nile God, Hapi" (p176, Sacred Science). There is also the Mayan calendar to consider and the mayans were heavily symbolic. But yes, I wholeheartedly agree, it is time for Afrikans to "flesh" it out for ourselves and lets hope that someone, somewhere be doing just that. blksmile2_2:
