I keep hearing this term constantly but I don't know where it stems from. I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday who said that she works in a place where she is the only Black women there. She said she gets that look from many of her co-workers that she might be an angry Black woman. She told me that she often Bites her toungue at work just so she does not get labelled as an "Angry Black Woman".

I was recently listening to the radio and this commentator was suggesting that Michelle Obama (Wife of Presidential candidate Barack Obama) be careful and walk a tight rope as to not offend many white voters by the image of an Angry Black Woman.

Maybe I'm lost here, But I don't know what an Angry Black woman means..

But just to test if you have never heard of this before, the answer is this: Thesame qualities that makes a Latina or Italian woman feisty or feiry becomes anger issues when it comes to black women.

Maybe you have trouble reading or understanding anything... I clearly stated that I don't understand what this term means. I gave examples of these terms from places I heard them from, which clearly don't make any sense to me or in my opinion are gross stereotypes. maybe you are comfortable with the label of Black women being angry..I for one am not and would like to know why they feel that Black women are quote unquote angry..

But they make it seem as if all Black women are angry. That is the perception or the assumption even before the Black women speaks. I take it that if a Black women speaks her mind and does not back down she is labelled an Angry Black Women. When My friend told me this I felt bad for her because she felt stifled at work and was afraid to speak her mind. Then recently when I heard this white commentator on the radio suggesting that Michelle Obama kind of tone herself down and not come off as the "Angry Black Women" so as to not offend White voters. Stereotypes against Africans will always exist no matter what, it's a part of life. No matter how many Africans whites encounter who go against their negative preconceived notions, this unfortunate part of reality will always remain because it's too deeply embedded in the white pysche. Plus it's what they want to believe anyway. As for that white commentator - of course whites don't want the potential 'black' First Lady to get too "uppity" but instead to be some 19th century aunt Jemima type who smiles sweetly.
