Beware of the Natural Hair Nazis and Natural Hair Police -
07-06-09, 09:14 PM
come on people lets discuss. I see this on hair boards, forums etc and on BNV.
of course this article is about another persons perception opinion on what makes someone natural and someone elses hair choices.

Beware of the Natural Hair Nazis and Natural Hair Police
What Is a” Natual Hair Nazi” - A “Natural Hair Nazi” is a person or group of people who have converted to natural hair and are so pro-natural that they sometimes offend others with their actions. You know, we’ve all seen them policing message boards, blogs, YouTube, etc. correcting or challenging every product suggestion, styling tip that is given. Calling people out because they straighten their hair. Denouncing another’s natural status because of the the products they use. — Urban Curlz

interesting.... I look forward to the impending debate on this subject... Just one thought though isn't interesting how some men get really het up about woman and processed hair... Personally I don't go for that type of look..but I'm also not going to be hounding people on the subject either...

@K it can get serious. One girl I subscribe to on YouTube said she had enough. She was getting hated on by people as described in the piece yet she was natural did turorials for natural styles and people would pick on the most ridiculous of stuff like hair type no you could never be a 3c/4a/b etc etc, she deleted all her vids and said see ya
but she came back because many subscribers asked her too. very deep
on a certain pro natural anti anything but natural textured hair forum members when you go on that board if you type in certain words it auto changes like - relaxer become chemical fire cream, their members can reduce you tears if new and did not know you could only talk about natural hair in one dimension okay maybe 2
but it would be nice for other folk to add their tuppence

I have been accused at times of being a bit over zealous when it comes to my sisters and natural hair. At one point in my life, I wouldn't even date a woman who wore her hair straight more than 50% of the time that I saw her, unless her hair had natural "loose curls" or was naturally straight.
I will give my take on what I think creates so many Natural Hair Nazis that are at least men. It is very difficult for conscious brothers to find like-minded women. When the definition of "natural" gets too relaxed (no pun intended), it tends to draw women to be "natural" who are not particularly culturally aware. It becomes confusing, as it is already difficult to figure out which Afrikans you can speak honestly and openly with on issues concerning our people; let alone finding a life partner to build a family with.
I would imagine that our sisters who are Natural Hair Nazis may have a similar frustration as men do in identifying the sisters they can relate with, but that is just speculation on my part. Hotep...

Just stop and think for a second.
You have black people that are angry/passionate enough about our mentality to be "natural hair nazis." I don't support that kind of behavior, but all things considered you have to appreciate that on some level.
But getting back to the subject...
While I see a problem with someone being a bit too passionate, I think I see a bigger problem with the OTHER "natural hair nazis." You know who they are. These are the women that sit around making up hair texture charts and trying to "acheive" certain lengths(and textures)through "miracle" products and bizarre methods. When someone is going on and on about 3b-y-q hair, hanging upside down like a bat for a hair treatment, and assorted nonsense, that's just scary. There are also those people who aren't quite "hair nazis," but they just take it a bit too seriously as if a natural means you can heal the sick.

What I can't stand are the naturals who think that what they do to their hair is gospel and get angry when other people don't want to adopt their methods. Just because you're riding on the silicons are bad bandwagon or are on the only use juices and berries crusade does not mean that I'm going to join you. Do what you want to your hair and stop worrying about other people's hair.
I also can't stand the insecure naturals or transitioning relaxed heads who are stuck on hair typing and will be posting threads and making yt vidoes asking people what their hair type is. And when someone comes out and says that they are a type 4, they get defensive (as if being a type 4 is a bad thing) and upset talking about, are you sure that I'm not a type 3? I looked at the hair charts and everything and my hair looks like a 3c. I'm sure I'm a 3c. Er, if you've already decided that you are a 3c then why are you asking people what your hair type is?

these folk many of whom use to relax - suddenly become higher than though and now all relaxer (creamy crack as they call it) wearing weave wearing pony tail wearing lacefront heads are evil and caught in a trap. but waut a minute they need to realise that your destiny is simply that. yours
i am natural but i am not restricted and will never talk down someones hair choice unless its not looking neat.
