I didn't think this topic would be all that big a deal. But I guess it is. As I said, my ex didn't take my name. I wasn't offended in the least.
I was actually offended when she used my name after we separated.
That was crazy.

Again, it is my personal and firm choice to hypenate. I will not negotiate for there is no room for negotiation on that one. I am past the age and the mindset of wanting any more children, (thank God!) so that isn't even an issue. It wouldn't be an issue had I married and had children. They'd know from the jump why mommy has two last names and it wouldn't matter one bit. How do I know? Because my last namediffers from my daughter (never married her father and we are not together now) and she
has never hada problem with it.

I think it is surprising how many brothas take this so seriously.

Perhaps its the "brothas'" NEED to be a master to someone just as they see a master in white men? Why else would a perfectly normal, healthy, confident human being INSISTS on a cultural norm that our ancestors did not practice and even better, did not have a WORD for it in ANY of their languages?
I asked here before for any AFRICAN to tell me what MRS is in ANY African language, yet NO one even touched on the point because NO one actually knows this! Talk about being experimental sheeps who do whatever everyone else is doing......which i wouldn't really care much about if it wasn't for some people calling it the AFRICAN WAY....
MRS or MADAM or whatever, ONLY exists in EUROPEAN languages.....again if someone can prove me wrong, i will take my African backside back to more boring revisions....lol

Perhaps, this has something to do with the definition of masculinity that we have within westernized African communities?

The term for Mrs in Yoruba language is - Iyawo', Mr is - oko. In fact Mrs comes b4 Mr, when addressing a couple.
God determines who walks into your life...It's up to you who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go. May God bless all of you and your life be full of Peace, Prosperity, Love and Abundance. Amen
