Should more Black children play Chess? -
05-04-08, 03:19 AM
There are lots of benefits to children that learn to play Chess. It is a universal educational tool that motivates both girls and boys to learn. It is a misconception that Chess is only for nerdy, gifted kids. Chess can help all students!
Chess is Fun! It improves concentration and inspires self motivation. Chess develops children's imagination and creativity and their memory. Chess will help your child perform better in school and raise their grades.
Chess is not a game of luck! It is a Mind Sport and it makes children smarter.
Would you like to be part of the Black UK Chess Association? How about starting a Chess club yourself or persuading your child's school to introduce one at lunchtime or after school?
I always chuckle when I come across people's ideology of the game "chess". I never knew Chess was affiliated with the smart, nerdy, articulate. I've been playing Chess since I was four years old. That is because that was the only board game in the house then. Me and my brothers and friends from the "Ghetto" laugh at it because we can't grasp of how it became a game for the "wealthy", "middle-class", academically privileged". We thought it was just a board game. I see black people all the time playing this game. You can go to the ghettos in New York and find people sitting in the park, starbucks, on their stoop, or in their home playing chess.
