One sci-fi book I'm almost finished and an entertaining math book I just started.
The SF book is about robot tanks, an idea originated by a writer now deceased. The idea was taken up by another military sci-fi writer whose stuff I have read and I wanted to see how well he adapted the idea to his style.

BOLO!
I want to add a mathematics book to my reading list but I want something entertaining to stimulate interest not a boring grind even if useful. This has lots of pictures and demonstrates many areas in which mathematics is applicable. I'm only on page 20 and I've learned some things I never heard of.

Hi Urban Beauty,
I'm also reading 'Ugly' by Constance Briscoe, I'm just a little over half way through it. You've probably finished it already. I dont know if this has already been discussed on this site but apparently the other members of the family are very much against the book and saying that it's a lie as she wasn't treated in this way as a child. They are even taking her to court over the allegations written in the book.
What do you think of the story then? Believable or not? I'll let you know my opinion when I've finished it.
(as I said, sorry if this topic has already been discussed)
Look into my \'Ebony Eyes\' when you talk to me bwoy!

Zadie Smith's 'On Beauty'
Half way through this, anyone else read it yet, and if so what do you think?

I did start 'Nutricide' but I cannot take the ranting. I get why there is anger and frustration, but I am on the second chapter now and I have read enough ranting. Might try it again at a later date.:?
Currently reading 'They Came Before Columbus' and it reads like a storybook (the first chapter) so it is annoying me, but I will persevere.

'City of God' by Paulo Lins,
Didn't think it were possible but its actually better than the cult movie which was loosely based upon this book, just as dynamic and invigorating.
If you liked the film...you'll love the book, Recommended to all those who like to read

Pandora's Star
One of the best Sci Fi books I've read in years. It's big and first book of two, the sequel is called Judas Unchained. Here's the blurb
It is AD 2380, and humanity has colonised over six hundred planets, all interlinked by wormholes. With Earth at its centre, the Intersolar Commonwealth has grown into a quiet, wealthy society, where rejuvenation allows its citizens to live for centuries.
When astronomer Dudley Bose observes a star over a thousand light years away vanish, imprisoned inside a force field of immense size, the Commonwealth is anxious to discover what actually happened. As conventional wormholes can't reach that far, they must build the first faster-than-light starship. Captained by Wilson Kime, an ex-NASA astronaut a little too eager to relive his old glory days, the Second Chance sets off on its historic voyage of discovery.
But someone or something out there must have had a very good reason for sealing off an entire star system. And if the Second Chance finds a way in, what might be let out?
The pitch and pace of the story is perfect. It starts off slow and interesting building up all the many many characters and setting the scene before getting exciting towards the end with a good finish and lots of twists and suprised. I recommend it.

my friend insisted i read this book...so i am giving it ago. so far so good
my best friend's girl by dorothy kamsoon
What would you do for the friend who broke your heart? Best friends Kamryn Matika and Adele Brannon thought nothing could come between them - until Adele did the unthinkable and slept with Kamryn's fiance, Nate. Worse still, she got pregnant and had his child. When Kamryn discovered the truth about their betrayal she vowed never to see any of them again. Two years later, Kamryn receives a letter from Adele asking her to visit her in hospital. Adele is dying and begs Kamryn to adopt her daughter, Tegan. With a great job and a hectic social life, the last thing Kamryn needs is a five year old to disrupt things. Especially not one who reminds her of Nate. But with no one else to take care of Tegan and Adele fading fast, does she have any other choice? So begins a difficult journey that leads Kamryn towards forgiveness, love, responsibility and, ultimately, a better understanding of herself.
it also covers adoption of a white child by a black person and all the rage it gives white people, though flip the coin and no one blinks
im reading a few pages a nite
