@Saint Sage,
If you have read George Orwell's 1984 (One of my favourites) you should now read Aldous Huxleys "A Brave New World" both are visions of the Future, but I think that Huxleys was more closer to the truth.
The interesting point is that while Orwell was a former Colonial Policeman, his vision of the Future is that of Brutality.
In constrast to Huxley who was a copywriter, whos vision of the future was mind numbing consumerism, genetic engineering, and bland pacification of the masses through Soma, our ersatz being Television.
The book on the Boer War sounds interesting as I have been reading around that period, the time of the Boer War concides with the formation of the Protectorate of Nigeria and the last Ashanti War, where both the West Frontier Force, the Nigerian Regiment and the West Indian Regiment were used to put down that war.
When I get time I will have to read up on the Boer War, because the aftermath is that the British sold out the Africans to the Boers.
