Put the book down after two chapters. Briscoe may have a compelling story to tell but she doesnt tell it in a compelling way at all. Its definetly no literary masterpiece just events strung together. Hope to finish it off sometime.

Why are people so angry with this woman for airing out her dirty laundry? This kind of thing happens in every race and therefore should not be taken as reflective of the black family unit.

Didn't any of you hear about the white American woman who beat, tortured and killed her two eldest daughters out of shear hatred for females? That story was horrific and disgusts me every time I think about it. The lady prostituted her own daughters. She shoot her first born in the back and then operated on her while she was still awake to try and get the bullet out. And then when the girl didn't recover after the opeartion, this woman had her own sons burn the poor girl alive. As for her second daughter, she locked her up in a closet without food or water and starved her to death. The last daughter who managed to escape this was actually the one who had her mother charged and convicted. She's done television appearances and talks all over the U.S. to let the public know about her sisters' ordeal. She sees this as a way for her to put the past behind and find justice for hersisters.

Now should white peoplesilence this woman because it makes their race look bad? How is this any different from whatBrisco has experienced. There'resadistic mothers in the black race too. Now I may not like her choice of a partner butI don't see how that affects her credibility.Who knows, the way her mother treated her may even be the reason why she ended up with a white man. How can you have self-love and believe that you're beautiful when your own mothercalls you ugly and abuses you because ofyourAfrican features?

I just read the book, it was ok, her writing skills were through the floor in my personal opinion. The book wasn't moving or anything.

can anyone tell me why she always placed so much emphasis on school dinners??

I brought the book on sat evening and finished it this morning. I thought i was brilliant. At the end of the day the child was beaten down for 18 years of her life and that mashed her up. I wasn't surprised that she married a white man after they way that her family made her feel about her African features.

For God sake she was just telling her story, she was the child she was the victim she was seriously abused.

I dont think that she insulted her family by telling her storythey insulted her. Of cause they would be pissed they should be ashamed! (kiss teet)

She's a QC so she should know better than cast ALLEGATIONS about her own 72 year old mother in public. And then it hit me - she's cashing on the latest celeb fad. Write about your traumatic childhood with unsubstantiated allegations and flog it for £££££££. I dont think her mum needs this kind of stress at her age.

And she's married to that old duffer? No surprise there - same old story.

You need to go read the book. Did you wek your bed a fiften years of age?

manthat book is deep what is wrong with some black parents how you gonna insult your child for african features you gave them.

As for her taking up with a white man and having mixed kids think Micheal Jackson if you are tormented and cruelly insulted about your african features and your not a strong person,do you think you are going to grow-up with a healthy self image of yourself? Hell No!!!your probally (sp)not gonna want a bed partner/husband or children to look to much like you, no matter how much therapy you recieve somethings stay with us.

You obviously need to read some books on child abuse. It is in fact common among abused children to have siblings who were treatedfairly wellby their parents. Its simply disgusting think that some people on here are questioning whether or not this woman was actually abused. It islittle wonder why the black community has so many problems because people likelike thiswant to sit here with their eyes closed and pretend these thingsdont happen,LOL.

When the missionaries came to Africa, they had the bible and we had the land. They taught us to pray with our eyes closed. When we opened them, they had bible, and they had the land.

I've read the book also and I'm sorry but I had to question if it was all truth or not. Things in that book don't add up at all. Constance never seems to express any emtion or feeling in response to her mothers abuse, or that at least how she wrote it. Sorry, but I firmly believe constance is talk s*it at some points in that book. She's hiding things. Not once in all those years did constance ever retaliate from the awful abuse (as she writes it). Constance has some confessions.
